Great to have all these memories coming back. I well remember Mosman Infants and its physical surrounds, and the air raid practice. I actually loved the milk hot or cold, and would drink anyone else’s.
I have been meeting with Brian Strack, Murray Mansill, John Doherty and others, some of whom well remember Lois Cecilia Baxter (class 4A of 1945) and her compact mirror at her observation post. Gritting her teeth, she gave me and my mate Alistair Bluett our first taste of the cane. Down in Reid Park, she and Lesso shared cigarettes on sports day. Unfortunately I was exiled to Fort Street (so-called) Opportunity in 1946-7, so only had 2 years at the “big school” after Mosman Infants.

Thank you Rhonda. My first year at MHPS was with Miss Bradford in 1948. I loved my education there and remember Helen Bartier a great swimmer who also lived on Ourimbah Road and rivaled Lorraine Crapp as a swimmer who swam with Dawn Fraser. Your memories of the playground and procedures were perfect. I remember our class did The Micado at The Mosman Town Hall one year. I was selected to attend Cremourne Girls High School. Unfortunately the family moved to Adelaide seven months later. My younger sister Raelene Adams also attended MHPS and was selected to go to Fort Street in the city. She lives in Brisbane and I live in Adelaide. I was fond of Diana White, Gail Johnson, Nerida Johnston and Helen Bartier. I remember John Pullinger and myself always trying to get the highest marks for writing in our class. Thanks for the memories Rhonda. June 20th 2022.

I remember Whittles hardware with many fond memories growing up in Mosman as a kid in the 60’s
My dad would often take me in there on a Saturday morning after footy games at Balmoral. I was always mesmerised by the shelves and the owners ability to find things in the jumble of shelves .
My dad would often have a laugh with the owner and would often send me in there for joke items like a left handed screw driver or stipped paint , but the best was when he would slip into the pub for a quick beer and send me to the hardware to pick up a long weight

Thank you so much for your wonderful account of Lennox Street Richard and particularly your account of 14 Lennox Street which is now our home. We bought 14 Lennox Street in 2013 and have heard a few things about the family who first lived in our house in the 1940’s but you have now filled in a lot of the gaps for us. We too have 2 daughters and are spoilt with the wonderful walks around the area and a quiet street and still get excited when we hear the lions, monkeys and seals from the zoo! Thank you again!

my aunty nola lived in 75 bay street for a long time after her husband passed away. my dad would take us there for holidays sometimes. long block, 2 street frontage, tiny gas operated bath system, but it was welcoming because aunty nola made it so. she was working at a hotel on the north shore cooking for the likes of john laws , the cast of a country practice etc. she called everyone darling and had a thumb missing due to a redback bite.

Hello I remember St Monan’s Hospital, Holt Avenue, Cremorne, as I lived next door to the hospital in a Federation style home, made in bed-sits in the years, 1942-1944.My father joined the Air Force, so mum & I moved to Sydney from North Queensland, to be with relatives. Mum was lucky to find accommodation next door to St Monans Hospital. I remember having my tonsils out there, after spending months in the Royal Sydney Hospital with a heart complaint. My mum decided to transfer me over to St Monans, where I was cared for until ready for discharge. I was very young, but can remember the experience, and someone taking me ‘home’ to next door in a wheelchair. Was thrilled to find the photo, thanks to my son recently relocated to Sydney from Brisbane. Very interested in local history of Sydney and suburbs. Cheers, and loved reading everyones’ comments about St Monans Hospital.
