‘Finedon’

View of Finedon, 4 Ryrie Street, built early 1939 by architect Hedley Norman Carr, whose family lived there until 1983.

Mosman Library holds a complete set of photos of this house dated circa 1983.

  1. I am interested in contacting Donal Carr regarding any archive material of Hedley Carr that is available to the public. I have written a book on Building Contract and Architect James Thomson Chambers who built for and worked with Hedley Carr in the Central West of NSW. I am still researching the connection with Hedley Carr

  2. There was a very charming elderly lady inhabiting Finedon, a very fine don, indeed, no doubt, a Mrs Carr, RIP, who is still for me, and possibly 4 others (Ros, where are you?), the very Platonic ideal of the perfect kindly old lady. She was a widow when I knew her in the 70s. Lovely, such a nice street in that Golden Dawn when it was such beauty to be alive. I always suspected, even back then (Mozart?), it was the capacious architecture of her Art Deco/Art Nouveau cottage that expanded that good soul……and hopefully in consequence mine, a little.
